LM&M Railroad
All Steamed Up!

LEBANON, Ohio, May 6 2008 -- The Lebanon Mason Monroe Railroad (LM&M), the only authentic, historic train offering recreational rides in Southwest Ohio, is planning its first steam engine event, All Steamed Up!. This event takes place in historic downtown Lebanon for three consecutive weekends June14 through 29. For the first time in decades, the sound, sites and smells of an authentic steam locomotive returns to Lebanon, Ohio. Bring kids, grandparents, or a friend and experience this type of railroad travel before the advent of alll steamed up engine 75 Flagg Coal Companythe diesel locomotive—Ride behind the steam engine, talk with the cab crew, watch the maintenance and servicing, and take pictures of the locomotive in action! The gondola will be positioned behind the steam locomotive so riders can view the fireman working on the coal engine. Riders will board their chosen car and then proceed to the gondola after conductors have punched tickets.

“Steam locomotives built this country and it’s machinery we don’t get a chance to experience anymore,” says Ray Kammer LM&M Operations Manager. This is nostalgia and history at its best.”

75 steam engineThe Flagg Coal Company #75 is a small, industrial-type engine, with an 0-4-0 wheel configuration. Built in 1930 by Vulcan Iron Works in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., it was first purchased by the Flagg Coal Company in Pennsylvania, but then sold to the Solvay Process Quarry in New York, where it was used to push cart loads of rock. In 1954, it was purchased by railroad conservationist Dr. Stanley Groman. After Groman’s death in 1991, father and son team Byron and John Gramling purchased and restored the locomotive.

Formerly known as the Lebanon and Turtlecreek Railway, the Lebanon Mason Monroe Railroad (LM&M) boards passengers at the beautiful Lebanon Station owned by the Lebanon Council of Garden Clubs, in historic downtown Lebanon, Ohio. The new gift shop and ticket office recently moved across the street at 127 S. Mechanic Street. The train consists of a restored 1950s-era GP-7 diesel-electric locomotive, four open-window commuter coaches built in 1930, and a popular open-air gondola car on the rear of the train that allows passengers to enjoy panoramic views.

The LM&M attracts passengers and railroad buffs from hundreds of miles. In 2007, approximately 50,000 people rode the train, a fourteen percent increase from the previous year. Ninety-five percent of riders said that they would recommend it to a friend and 28 percent had never visited Lebanon, a city located between Dayton and Cincinnati that is famous for its many grand 19th century homes, antique shops, historic restaurants and other attractions that can easily provide a day’s worth of enjoyment.
